It was January 26, 2010.

And one of the first times I remember seeing up close the devastation of alienation in real time.

At a band concert.

There she sat.

The alienator with Mary and Liam.

Waves were followed by screams of “Daddy! Daddy!” as soon as we arrived.

Little faces adorning smiles quickly started to make their way to the aisle.

Like a cheetah springing into action, the alienator lept to the end of the row, dove into the last seat and slammed her legs up against the chair back in front of her so hard we could hear the slapping of her shoes from rows away.

Their smiles quickly faded.

Our hearts quickly sank.

“It’s MY TIME!,” she screamed so loudly the entire auditorium stopped.

Little faces were now adorning tears.

As the lights went dim and the concert began.
